The Adani-backed Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRPPL) has undergone a significant transformation with a new name—Navbharat Mega Developers Private Limited (NMDPL). This strategic rebranding aligns with the project’s ambitious goals and positions the initiative as a distinct private enterprise, separate from the Maharashtra government’s Dharavi Redevelopment Authority (DRA).

Despite the name change, the partnership framework remains unchanged. The Maharashtra government continues to hold a 20% stake in the venture, while the Adani Group controls an 80% majority. This collaboration ensures a balance between public interests and private investment in revitalizing one of Asia’s largest slums.

Spread across 600 acres in the heart of Mumbai, the Dharavi Redevelopment Project aims to revolutionize living conditions for residents by introducing modern infrastructure, sustainable housing, and enhanced urban amenities. The project is designed to tackle longstanding issues such as overcrowding, poor sanitation, and lack of basic services.


Financial Commitments and Progress

With INR 2,000 crore invested to date, the initiative has already achieved major milestones. This includes INR 1,000 crore for acquiring critical land parcels and an additional INR 1,000 crore for surveys and initial groundwork.
