Land Records is a general term used for everything related to the land like its registration, ROR(Records of Rights), mutation register, crop inspection register, its tenancy etc. Apart from this, there is also the geological and economic information of the land like the size and shape and information of the crops and irrigation.
There was a program launched by the central government in August 2008 called the Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme (DILRMP). This program computerized all land records including maps, survey/ re-survey, maps, mutation records etc.
Many Indian states including Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Kerala, MP and West Bengal have digitized their land records.

First of all, go to the official page for land records of your state. For Example, if you want to check for Delhi, go to official website on Delhi government.
Now, select the land’s sub-division or district.
Then, select the village or tehsil to which the land belongs following which select the account type.
A search using the account number can be executed and then click on “View account Details” to get all the necessary details.
It is very beneficial to have these records online as you can check the details anytime at your convenience. Also, the maps present there can be useful to cross check the data in the records. As everything is online, there is no dispute regarding the ownership of land thus avoiding land disputes. This is a single window of information for people which also assures the integrity of the data. Data can also be maintained efficiently when it is online. This also reduces the occurrences of fraud.
