Kottur-Malayandipattinam, also known as kottur is the largest panchayat town in Coimbatore district which falls under the  Pollachi Taluk. The name is a fusion of two words Kottur, which means ‘village at the end’ and Malayandipattinam, which means ‘town near the mountains’. They are two parts of the panchayat town. Kottur being the southern and Malayandipattinam, the northern. Connected only by roads, Kottur-Malayandipattinam is a scenic place surrounded by coconut groves and stretches of paddy fields that have been used in a number of south indian, as well as, bollywood movies. This ecologically town is also affluent in culture. What Diwali is to the northern parts of India Pongal is to Kottur-Malayandipattinam.
