Madurantakam, Chennai

Madurantakam is located in the Kancheepuram district and is both a town and a municipality. Situated in the state of Tamil nadu, this place is known for the Maduranthakam Lake. As the legend goes, this place was built by the Chola King, Uthama Chozha and was known as Maduranthakar in those times. Furthermore, this town is also the home for the popular temple, Aeri Katha Ramar Temple. This is known as a holy place which was once visited by Ramanuja and here his statue is dressed in white whereas in other area it is dressed in yellow ochre. Being a religious place, this town has a number of temples and churches along and bird sanctuaries like the Vedanthangal Bird Sanctiary and Karikili Bird Sanctuary.
