Mandaveli, Chennai

In Chennai, India, there is a district called Mandaveli (also spelt Mandavelli or Mandavelipakkam). It is also frequently referred to as Mandavelipakkam, where "Mandhai" is Tamil for "herd of cattle" and "Veli" is Tamil for "grassland." It is encircled by Alwarpet on the west side. The 150-year-old Kapali Talkies, the Airtel regional headquarters for Tamil Nadu, the Ponds regional head office, Hindustan Lever, and other buildings like the Greenways Road & Boat Club are the main "landmarks" in Mandaveli, which is primarily a residential neighbourhood. Mandaveli is home to a sizable Brahmin population because of its closeness to the temple-heavy Mylapore. Between Santhome, which is where the San Thome Basilica is located, to the north, and Adyar, to the south, is considered as a residential and commercial district called Mandavelipakkam.
